Workshop On Inclusivity

As part of a Blikopener project within LUCA School of arts, we designed a workshop format to discuss complex concepts, such as inclusivity, into accessible actions for entrepreneurs. The two-hour session is designed to help participants uncover inclusivity ‘blind spots,’ address key challenges, and exchange expertise for future collaboration.

Inclusivity may seem self-evident, but many entrepreneurs or organisations find it a complex and challenging topic. Some want to take action but don’t know where to start, while others feel intimidated by the topic. The fear of making mistakes often leads to inaction and postponement.

The workshop consists of four parts:

  1. Identify current inclusive practices through pre-defined themes that each represent an aspect of inclusivity, such as: user diversity, work culture, accessibility, research, design process, sustainability, marketing & storytelling, social & economic impact, partners & suppliers, and community

  2. Identify ‘blind spots’ or areas for improvement for inclusivity based on participants' local situation, for example from a marketing studio, an independent job coach and a museum.

  3. Action Plan to identify long-term commitments, since inclusivity is not a quick fix but requires systematic change through diverse actionable steps.

  4. Identify opportunities by exploring possible ‘inclusive’ challenges or questions from industry to strengthen academic collaborations with researchers from LUCA.

Many associate inclusivity with a radical transformation, whereas, in reality, it is about taking small, deliberate steps in the right direction. Open dialogues and communication about these steps and decisions are key. Every business or organisation operates within its own means, resources, and pace but the most important thing is to just start, and we would like to explore these inclusive practices and actions together with you.
